Ideas for Sample Resumes for Terminated Employees

Termination of service or being fired is not just another movie scene. It may have happened to anyone. Even the best employees can have experienced such. Just because you are terminated means you are not good and everything ends there.

Termination happens for a lot of reasons. It could either be a strategic move by a company due to downsizing, cost cutting, legal issues, and many other factors. In most cases, it is simply because of an employee's fault. For what it is worth, it will still give you the dilemma of starting all over again which also means creating a new resume.

After the Nightmare, What's Next?

For most people who love and understand the importance of their jobs, you might consider being fired or laid off as your worst nightmare and the only way to get over it is to wake up! Yes! Dwelling on the past will not help you move forward in terms of career plans. Though that may cause a lot of sleepless nights thinking of all the bills, mortgage, and other expenses, the only option left will be spending the next days in search of a new job or do nothing, have nothing, and be nothing. It may not be easy but you can always start with the basic. So grab a pen and prep up sample resumes to guide you in creating a real one that you can use in hunting for a new job.

These are the sections that should be included in the application:

· Heading - Includes your full name, contact information, and address.

· Career Objective - Conveys a message to the reader that you can be the best candidate and that you are dynamic and willing to learn new things.

· A Center of Attraction - Summarizes your skills and accomplishments in a bulleted format with concise descriptions. This makes it easy to read and draw attentions to your strength.

· Work Experiences - Voluntary works counts, internships, or any training that has relevant disciplines.

· References- People you have worked with who will help a potential employer in verifying facts.

Take those Baby Steps...

It is difficult to deal with termination and start anew, but suffering each day without doing anything is harder. Take those baby steps and get things started by:

· Taking some time - look, call, or talk to someone who could be a resource person for any job openings.

· Picking up your self-esteem - getting fired or laid off might have caused you to lose your confidence. To have it back could mean going out of the house, attending job fairs, and meeting new aspirants who may have gone through a similar situation.

· Including in your sample resumes your contributions as an employee - it is a reminder that you have done something good, can still be given a chance, and that you can always do better.

· Familiarizing your prospective job - by doing such, you will be able to adapt to changes that your next job may require.

In handing your resume to the recruitment manager, expect that questions regarding your previous job will be asked. Do not fret if it brings back not so good memories. But instead, take it as an opportunity to prove that you can and will do better this time. In case of being laid-off, be transparent. There could be no other way but to tell them upfront the reason of the company why it needed to lay off its employees. It can happen to anyone and it is always best to know how to manage it.

Sample Resume: Innovating an Application Document

Hiring managers' decision whether or not to consider an applicant for an interview only takes a couple of seconds, and is usually based on first impression. Having them read the first few lines of your resume could mean two things: 1) you caught their attention or 2) it is just a waste of precious time to continue reading. Wouldn't it be nice to be part of the first cut or nicer to be the only one left? An application document alone cannot get you a job-unless if it is obviously well-done, factual, and concise. If your application document is characterized by these descriptions, the next thing that you should do is to prepare for the sought-after interview. There are examples that you may use to create your own but there can be no better way but to have it "your way."

Why should you be hired?

A sample resume can help in crafting a document that will demonstrate that you are the best candidate. Remember that your edge as a potential employee will greatly depend on how flourishing your copy is. As an aspirant, you need a breakthrough in creating a contemporary application document. Here's how to do one:

- First Things First. Your header must have the important information (complete name, complete home address, contact numbers, and email address).

- Content Counts. No matter how good your contents are there will be no guarantee that the recruiter will take time to read all of it. The best way to wow your potential employer is through presentation. It is recommended to make use of readable font style (Times New Roman, Verdana, and Arial) and font size (10-12). Don't forget to leave an adequate space to make the document readable.

- Sum It Up. This may be the only section that hiring manager/recruiter reads fully, the "icing on your cake." Summarize your skills and accomplishments in a strong and convincing manner.

- Proofread. The only way for you to find out if you have done a satisfying sample resume is to read it. Once you are done reading, you can ask a friend or someone who is experienced for suggestion as to what should be added or omitted.

To effectively construct an eye catching example, thou shall not!!!

- Use words that are irrelevant or is applicable only to a specific position.

- Use vague objective description. Be specific. Phrase such as "looking for a challenging position" is already over used.

- Use unprofessional email address (for example, "Anne.tyler@domain.com" is way better than "antylr@domain.com").

- Include reason of previous employment termination for it may be asked or discussed during the interview. If a potential employer sets eyes on this particular detail, he may take it negatively and your application may be disregarded.

- Include misspellings, grammatical error and unnecessary punctuation marks.

Remember not to inflate or exaggerate information. Your sample resume must be the answer to the needs of job seekers who will make use of it as a guide in crafting their own application document. It should be well-written, innovative, and that can get better results.

Dear Mr. or Mrs. Last Name,

I am a senior at the XYZ State University and am interested in interviewing for a job as an Information Technology Specialist with ABC. I believe that ABC has the ideal culture that will allow me to grow further in my career and goals of becoming an innovative and inspiring computer programmer. The skill set that I have learned in college is fresh and I believe can greatly contribute to ABC.

My extensive course work in my computer science major at XYZ State University has allowed me to develop, sharpen, and gain knowledge of new and existing technologies. I have also studied broader elements such as business writing, Spanish, and other classes that I believe will greatly benefit your company. My previous work experience as a Java Programmer has allowed me to gain a footing in the advanced techniques of the programming arena. With this experience I am better able to jump write in the other programmers and will require little training.

I firmly believe that I would be a good fit in ABC's innovative and historical environment. Thank you for taking the time and consideration of my resume.

Let Style Determine The Best Sample Resume

Looking for a good sample executive resume on the Internet is a little like finding the perfect piece of fruit in a huge supermarket. You need a guideline to help pick the best one. My suggestion is that you use two primary criteria, document organization and writing clarity, in making this decision. This article deals primarily with clarity.

Anyone who has read my book or articles on resumes knows that I consider the job search a sales process. You are the product, prospective employers are potential customers and your resume is your brochure. If your "brochure," your resume, does not create immediate customer interest in the "product," it has failed, and frankly, so have your interview chances.

The typical resume reviewer reads up to a hundred resumes each day. This can only be done by making a quick decision on each resume as to whether it is worth continued reading. The resume that creates immediate interest and is easy to read stays in consideration the longest. Here are three rules I consider primary for writing an interesting, easy to read resume.

First, be natural in your writing and write with a plan. A natural writing style does not mean you should write as you speak. For example, most people tend to use contractions like "don't" or "can't" when we speak. These come across as overly familiar and are best avoided in resumes and cover letters.

The natural writing style uses words that should be familiar to most readers. This makes the document easy to read. Let me demonstrate. Read the following two sentences, considering whether you would want to read more in this style.

"Utilized psychological profiling to ascertain the appropriate price point for eCommerce product placement."

"Used customer input to set prices for Internet based products."

The second sentence is far preferable because the reader receives the necessary information with little effort. Making it easy for the resume reviewer to do a good job should always be part of your writing plan.

Another important part of your writing plan is the order in which words appear. Since grabbing and holding the reader's attention is so important, put the most interesting and important information early in each sentence, each paragraph and, where possible, in each resume section. If you are describing your sales ability, write with something like, "Delivered highest sales increase..."

Lastly, avoid common idioms, clich?s and figures of speech. Idioms are terms like "brain drain" or "bottomed out." The use of idioms cheapens a professional resume or cover letter. The truly successful sales organizations put the customer first. Choose a clear, easy to read sample resume as our guide and you will help your "customer" make the right decision on your candidacy.

Sample Broadcast Cover Letter

A broadcast cover letter is a simple adaptation of the traditional cover letter. It is designed to be sent without a resume and acts as both an introduction to the skills that you possess and a cover letter. The following are times when it may be appropriate to use the broadcast cover letter:

Sample Broadcast Cover Letter

* Your r?sum? is not receiving the desired result, and you want to try a different approach while you are reconstructing it.
* Your r?sum? is not appropriate for the position for which you are applying.
* You do not have a r?sum? that is relevant to this position.

A majority of the information will be taken from your r?sum?, because the purpose of the broadcast letter is to take the place of a r?sum? as a tool to initiate conversation and a way of introducing yourself to the candidacy of an employment position. You should conduct an in-depth analysis of your background and experience as it relates to a certain target job. Bear in mind that even though a broadcast cover letter may spur a telephone conversation with an employer, it is likely that the employer will still ask for a copy of your r?sum?. If this occurs, make every effort to schedule an interview, and bring a copy of you r?sum? with you; this will buy you a little more time to customize it for the employer's specific needs.

In the event that you do not have a r?sum?, there is a good chance that you will have to fill out an application. This forces you to put your background into the format that the employer wants, rather than the package of your choosing. Because of this, it is not recommended to use a broadcast cover letter as the main focus of your job search campaign. Instead, you should use it as an essential piece of you job search operation in one of the following ways:

* As an alternative approach when your cover letter and r?sum? don't create the response that you are looking for from individual target companies.
* For small, specifically aimed mailings to high-interest companies, where it can be effective as a customizing approach.
* For small, specifically aimed mailings to high-interest positions about which you have enough of a detailed understanding that such a letter would supersede the productiveness of your r?sum?.
* As a portion of a multiple-contact procedure in which you are contacting multiple people within a company with personalized letters.
* To submit to headhunters, who, if you possess the skill set that they are looking for, will assist you in packaging your professional experience.
* As an initial push, but with a a r?sum? and conventional cover letter at the ready for a supportive secondary mailing. Generally, the cold-mailed broadcast cover letter results in a request for a r?sum?, and other times it results in a telephone interview and a following face-to-face interview-with the request that you bring a copy of your r?sum?.

The following is an example of a broadcast cover letter:

November 1, 20--

Dear__________:

For the past five years I have sought an increasingly successful career in the profession of medical equipment sales. The following are some of my accomplishments:

SALES

As a regional sales representative, I contributed an average of $2.5 million, or 20 percent of my company's annual sales. I am very motivated by achievement.

MARKETING

My marketing skill set (based on a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing) assisted me to grow my sales by 20 percent in an economically strained territory, at a time when co-workers were struggling to simply maintain flat sales. My repeat business from strategic and key accounts reached an all-time high. I am persistent, detail oriented, and look for ways to provide excellent customer service at every opportunity.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Following the successes listed above, my regional model was adopted by the company to be used with sales representatives nation wide. I helped to train and provided project supervision to the entire U.S. sales team. The year following my training, sales in the U.S. showed an increase or 15 percent above the sales goal. I am a committed team player, who is motivated by the sales team's and the company's overall success.

The above success information was based on my priority pricing for primary customers. It is difficult for me to condense my work into a brief summary for this letter. The only way that I can envision a way for you to be able to fully analyze my credentials is for us to have a verbal conversation. I look forward to an opportunity to speak with you in person. Please call me at the following number ___________.

Yours sincerely,

John Baker
