When writing a Retail Associate resume, one of the most important skills you want to show the employer is "customer service." For those of us who've worked in the retail industry, you know how imperative it is to have customer service skills. I mean, you deal with customers all day. So when you're writing your resume, you must drive these skills home!
Another important part of this particular resume is showing the employer that you can multi-task. Having the ability to multi-task is a major part in retail. You may be asked to work the register, straighten out a particular department, and work with returns all in one day. Make sure you show the employer examples of how successful you were working multiple departments and how well you can handle the extra assignments.
Selling plays a major part as a Retail Associate. On your resume, show the employer that you can sell. For example- you may want to show how you assisted a customer in finding a shirt or an outfit; maybe they needed accessories or shoes. With your help, the customer was satisfied and purchased more than what they intended... IMPRESSIVE! This will show the employer your customer service and your selling skills. Having these types of examples on your resume will definitely put you at the top of the pile.
Have you ever received employee of the month, employee of the year or any award for outstanding achievement in this industry? If so, it would be a good idea to put that on your resume. Employers like to see outstanding achievers applying for the job. Seeing this information on your resume will help the employer make their decision and it will more than likely help you get the job!
Here's some other important information that should go on your Retail Associate resume
1. Education
2. Cashiering skills
3. Training courses or certifications
4. Keyboarding skills
5. Showing Initiative
Remember, when writing any resume, you must sell yourself. You must put thought and time into it. Really concentrate on the work you've done and add all you can on your resume; this is no time to be modest about your skills! The workforce is very competitive, so make sure you do your due diligence and prepare a resume that will stand out and beat the competition!
As Always, we wish you much success on your career journey!
