During the time when the World Wide Web wasn't yet around or at least wasn't known for its various purposes, job seekers had no other options but to create their own resumes. But now, they can easily produce one in an instant. Through the use of the Internet, applicants have a lot of options on how they want to have their important pre-employment documents. These choices include sample patterns, templates, or online resume building.
How does each of these options work?
Patterns and Templates
With patterns and templates, aspirants can be guided as they write their application tools. One important reminder to effectively use these online resources is by simply looking for the ones relevant to the position being applied for. In doing so, one should not be tempted to copy the exact words written on these sample patterns. Aside from the fact that this is a form of plagiarism, doing such unethical practice can lead to a more risky situation where the one who copies from the Internet source may not be aware that those copied words do not actually reflect his qualification. This incorrect information can mislead the hiring manager who may soon talk to the applicant face-to-face. During the interview, when there are inconsistencies between the information written on the application and the things being uttered by the aspirant, the hiring manager may find him liar or unreliable. For this reason, applicants should make it a point that they do not just duplicate others' work but should exert effort in crafting an outstanding application document.
Resume Builders
I assume that not all are familiar with this term or at least don't know how to use this.
Here's what it is all about:
Basically, it is an Internet-based software application program used to generate an application tool. Many websites offer this resume building mostly for free. All the user has to do is to create an account with a particular site and sign in there. There are various types of application builders and all may have different processes. Generally, however, these software applications work when the user inputs answers on the questions.
First and foremost, the user will have options on the template he wants to use. He will then fill-out either the questionnaire or the form. In answering, the applicant should include factual pieces of information because these will appear on the final output to be generated by the software application program. When the user is done in answering, it's time for him to go back to the entire answers and review to ensure that there is no wrong entry. He can arrange the sections on how he wants it to appear when it's printed. He can also customize the document. It's done! The user may now save the file and print it.
Despite its usefulness, many are still unconvinced because they are thinking about the issues on reliability and effectiveness.
Are they really effective?
Only those job seekers who once tried to use online resume building can measure if the generated result is really effective. In gauging the effectiveness, applicants should be able to answer the following:
- Is the output appealing to reader's eyes?
- Did it catch the attention of the hiring manager?
- Did it bring the applicant to his dream career?
