Politically Correct Approach Towards Winning Resumes

Can there be a political approach towards writing a resume? Well... not that politics that we are accustomed to. Here political simply means the different approaches towards writing a resume.

There are two schools of thoughts; one says that the resume should be beautifully typed and printed on a linen paper the other shows a more radical view by saying that the resume should not be in use on the very first place. The person should be called for an interview and reviewed. Resume is not the best possible way to identify the suitable candidate, the best way is achieved when the person is hired at the cheapest cost and at the shortest amount of time.

I use the following approaches to use resume as a tool:

Once, someone asked a very famous writer, what is the hardest thing to do, he said 'writing', than the person asked again, after that?? The writer replied the same, 'it's writing', and when he was asked the third time, his reply was the same.

The very first thing that I realize is that it is not easy to communicate effectively for the majority of the people. Finding the right words and the right sentences is not always possible under some specific situations though may be for most. Secondly, the construction of the sentence itself is sometimes hard for example it may be difficult for some one to explain the situation in the most proper of the ways, some thing that is known as written language as oppose to verbal where expressing thoughts is easy and more of a user friendly. And I expect the same even from a PhD in English so seeing an un pressing C.V does not qualify the candidate IF there are signs of potential.

I also use the information on the C.V as a potential future source of hiring people. C.V that I reject for the current openings are not rejected entirely instead there information is feed into my data base which serves as a future reference tool in an event when there is a process of outsource going on. I keep the record of their past projects, firms, experiences, institutions where they got their educations from. I pay special attention to the candidates who are from the firms that are in a process of restructuring because such people listen more to the offers and most probably will accept anything reasonable rather that to stick to their demands.

Another important thing that I do is that I try to format all the resumes that I receive. It is not easy because not all formats are in match with the C.V received. Besides some inevitable errors do occur while receiving emails like N's becoming R's and M's becoming E's etc. I also tell my managers to not give importance to the grammar of the content but to the content it has like education and experiences. This takes a while granted, but it will save my many hours that I will spend in the future in search of a right person.

Approach the Job Sphere With a Splendid Resume

The conditions of the job market in the 1990's were such that most organizations considered candidates not even meeting the required criteria sufficient because the number of candidates to choose from was not very large. Job seekers could get their desired job on their own terms and conditions and the employers were obliging.

The whole atmosphere of the job sphere has changed considerably since those times. The competition is so tough that many times, a job seeker's inability to market themselves properly and to highlight their strengths result into a never-ending struggle to find the right job.

Now-a-days, resumes which properly present accomplishments and significant capabilities are critical factors if a candidate is aiming to emerge as a winner. It is high time that the applicants reconsidered the basics. Employers don't settle for anything less than the very best. They have a wide group of candidates to choose from and are not obliging anymore.

A resume which leaves a strong impression is:

The connecting door between you and an interview

Your resume announces your qualifications, skills and accomplishments to the interviewer. You have to emerge successful from the interview.

The device that sets up the course of an interview

Interviews use your resume as a model to base their questions on.

After the completion of an interview, the recruiter has tools like your resume and their notes to help them remind of your worth as a potential employee. You can't decide the course of the interviewer's own notes, but what you do have the power to decide is the content of your resume. The resume may act as the last resort, so be cautious.

A factor that can help you make a solid impression

Usually, an organization only has your resume to assess your abilities. Your resume should market you as the most capable candidate.

A resume which fails to work is:

Your resume should emphasize your career objective, qualifications, skills, accomplishments and your potential contributions to the company. Your resume should not have a personal or casual tone and state unnecessary data like your date of birth, marital status and height etc.

If you were the person who designed your resume and didn't get it professionally reviewed, it's time to reconsider. If your resume is too basic, it might not cover essentials. Gathering past accomplishments in a striking fashion requires time and effort. Approaching your own accomplishments with objectivity is a key factor.

Resume writing doesn't follow any hard and fast rules. Many resume writing aids advise applicants to restrict the length of their resume to one page or necessarily use the chronological order. But these kinds of instructions won't work in your favor if all your qualifications, experiences and skills don't fit into one page or if the chronological order doesn't suit your details.

know how to use your resume as an effective tool.

Correct Approach to Resumes

Resumes have a way of challenging the recruitment industry. There exists a wide range of opinions on resumes. Some purists still believe in the old brand of printed resumes on linen papers. Radicals think that resumes should be entirely banished because in their opinion, the capabilities of a person can serve as a sufficient foreword. Both schools of thought hold weight and neither is entirely right or wrong. The end result should be the same i.e. the hiring of the most suitable candidate.

A resume is the tool which helps an employer select the fittest candidate. Some pointers on how to use a resume as a means to pick the best candidate are stated below:

The inability of most candidates to write an effective resume

Most people don't know how to write a successful resume. Even some highly qualified professionals face difficulty in designing winning resumes. Employers should take this key factor into consideration and not try to reject candidates as an immediate reaction to the r?sum?'s first view in order to ensure that no qualified candidates are neglected. Sometimes let a person's experience do the talking if their resume doesn't draw an appealing picture. If a resume fails as a whole but the accomplishments and qualifications hold weight, then it is worth giving them a call and evaluating their worth in the course of a telephonic interview. If an applicant has only shared a concise summary of their professional profile, this should not work against them if the resume portrays an impressive picture overall. Sometimes peak performers are so busy doing their job that they don't maintain updated resumes. Being too strict with one's demands regarding resumes can result into a never-ending search for the perfect candidate.

Information as a key source

After analyzing a particular resume, if a candidate is found to be unsuitable for a job then their resume could be used as an informative tool to explore other appropriate candidates. Details like past and current employers, past projects and educational institutions can be utilized as research and networking tools while searching for suitable candidates. If many resumes belong to the same organization, then it is an indicator of the company's job network getting rebuilt. The organization's list of candidates can be monitored closely to find the right candidate.

The Recruiter's Resume Expectations

Different levels of hiring personnel within the same organization can have a wide range of preferences regarding resumes. Hiring managers should be educated and kept updated on the current trend of resumes. Most of the resumes being circulated these days are electronic and cause a formatting issue. Word-processors and e-mail system don't always work in harmony and sometimes the resumes received by the company are severely modified. These formatting and typographical setbacks should be ignored and not held against candidates. A resume can be cleaned before being presented to the higher hierarchies of the hiring process so that it is in an acceptable shape.

In sum, the right approach can result into a broad range of resume uses, and the hiring of the best candidate.
